The museum contains constant smile & margin.

 

그러나 또 한국인의 역동성을 닮아
Like the dynamic Korean people, in addition

 

계절마다 새로운 옷을 갈아입는 곳
The museum changes clothes every season.

 

600년 도읍의 긴 역사를 품은 용산
Yongsan keeping 600 years of capital.

 

150년 변화무쌍했던 근대화의 산 증인 용산
Yongsan being witness of 150 years' modernization.

 

전통과 현대가 역사로 만나는 국립중앙박물관
Museum where tradition & modernity join in history.

 

그곳에 가면 늘 만나는 우리의 유산들
The aged heritages stay calm in there.

 

그곳에 가면 매번 새롭게 만나는 설렘들
The new beatings await us in there.

 

호수가 처음부터 고인 물은 아니었듯
As lake water has not been still from the first,

 

처음부터 고유한 것은 아니었던 우리 문화
Korean culture has not been unique from the first.

 

수많은 문화가 오랜 세월 동북아에 흘러 모여
Lots of cultural inflow have joined in Northeast Asia,

 

비로소 탄생한 우리의 4천년 문화
finally establishing only Korean culture of 4000 years.

 

몽골리안 원주민이 살던 대륙에
On the continent where Mongolian natives had lived,

 

유럽인과 아프리카인, 아시아인과 물라토가
Europeans & Africans, Asians & Mulattoes joined in

 

모여 만든 300년 미국 문화
creating 300 years' US culture.

 

말레이인이 살던 반도 끝에
On the peninsular edge where Malayan had lived,

 

이슬람과 화교, 유럽의 문화가 흘러들어
Muslims & Chinese, Europeans joined in 

 

탄생한 200년 페라나칸 문화
creating 200 years' peranakan world.

 

국립박물관에서 만나는 외국의 유물
The foreign heritages encountered in national museum.

 

타인은 나를 비추는 거울
The other is the mirror reflecting myself.

 

다른 문화를 통해 비로소 알게 되는 우리 자신
Our own unique shape realized through other cultures.

 

그리고 다른 문화를 통해 배우고 고쳐가면서
The korean new culture will be recreated

 

새롭게 창조할 우리만의 문화
by understanding & correcting through other's.

 

정체되고 고립될 수 없는 글로벌 시대의 우리
In the global era when cease & isolation is not allowed,

 

우리 자신의 역사와 전통, 그리고 그들의 역사와 전통은
Our own and their histories & traditions will be seeds

 

미래의 교훈과 자산이 될 씨앗이기에
growing up to lessons and properties for the future.

 

과거의 유산을 '오래된 미래'라 부르는 이유입니다.
That's why we call the past heritage 'the aged future'
